The world constantly changes. It experiences events that not only shape history, but also the future. As culture adapts to the ever-increasing knowledge of humanity, the inevitable advancement of technology, and even the integration of a new normal because of the recent global pandemic, one can ask a simple question:
Where does the Gospel of Jesus Christ fit in all of this?
This is the truth: The world around us might be changing but Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
The Philippines has been largely affected by the Corona Virus pandemic. We have witnessed families suffer through death of loved ones, financial crises, loss of jobs, and ultimately for many, loss of hope.
A global pandemic has caused many to adjust, adapt and pivot. For us, it has firmly confirmed what has been the cry of our hearts – to further advance the unchanging Gospel message of Jesus Christ to the whole nation, to our neighboring countries, and ultimately, the world.
In 2 Timothy 2:8-10 it says, “Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my Gospel, for which I am suffering, bound with chains as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound! Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.”
We see that Paul and Timothy share one thing: they are both DRIVEN BY THE GOSPEL. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the foundation, the formation, and the primary motivation in the life of every believer.
This is the message we want to convey: We are driven to dedicate our lives serving Jesus Christ, telling everyone about the salvation that is only found through Him, and the hope that can only be experienced in Him.
After much seeking, prayer and godly counsel, DRIVEN BY THE GOSPEL was born.
Driven By The Gospel (DBTG) is a platform with resources primarily for Filipinos all over the world. We are driven to share sermons, books, articles, videos, blogs and events that would faithfully honor the Gospel of Jesus Christ. To be driven by the Gospel is to uphold certain values and truths that shape the foundations of our faith:
We know who our Master is. Our lives are surrendered to the One who created us, to the One who holds us together and the One who fills us with the strength and wisdom to fulfill His purposes for us. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit – the triune God that drives the heartbeat of our souls. We are driven by the Master.
We know what the message of the Gospel is. It is the forgiveness of sin through the atoning work of Jesus Christ. It is a redemption story – a complete turning away from sin and a full-on obedience to Christ. It is the death of Christ on the cross to pay for all our sins and the resurrection of Christ to provide eternal life to those who truly believe in Him. We are driven by the power of God’s salvation and we want to reach as many people as we can with this unwavering truth. We are driven by the Message.
We know what our mission is. The Apostle Paul was eager to preach the Gospel not only to the lost but also to the Christians. Paul believes that the Gospel is essential to both evangelism and discipleship as it provides the foundation, the formation, and the primary motivation for the life of every believer. We are all about evangelism and discipleship. We are all about building the Church, the body of Christ, and to see to it that every believer gets connected to a local church. This was Jesus’ last command before He ascended into heaven: to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18-20). We are not just to be pure in doctrine, but we are also to be relevant and exuberant in application. (James 1:22-25; 2:14-17) We are driven by the mission.
Romans 1:16 says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”
DBTG is about encouraging everyone to live a Gospel-driven life – a life that is clearly driven by the Master, driven by the Message, and driven by the Mission.
By Scripture alone. By faith alone. By grace alone. Through Christ alone. For the glory of God alone.
WE ARE DRIVEN BY THE GOSPEL.
