A. Ang Tipan ng Buhay.
Kinuha ng PANGINOONG Diyos ang lalaki at inilagay sa halamanan ng Eden upang ito ay kanyang bungkalin at ingatan. At iniutos ng PANGINOONG Diyos sa lalaki, na sinabi, “Malaya kang makakakain mula sa lahat ng punungkahoy sa halamanan, subalit mula sa punungkahoy ng pagkakilala ng mabuti at masama ay huwag kang kakain; sapagkat sa araw na ikaw ay kumain niyon ay tiyak na mamamatay ka.”

Ang pagbibigay ng Panginoon ng utos kay Adan ay isang Tipan. Bagaman hindi ito nakatala sa teksto sa itaas, makikita natin ang pagbabago ng pagtukoy ni Moses sa Diyos bilang “Diyos” sa unang kapitulo tungo sa “PANGINOONG Diyos” mula sa 2:4. Ang salitang Hebreo na nakapailalim sa salitang “PANGINOON” ay ang Pangalan ng Diyos bilang Diyos ng Tipan.
Ang tipan ng Buhay ay tinatawag din ng ilan na Tipan ng Gawa, ang ilan naman ay hindi ito tinatawag na Tipan. Ganun pa man, malinaw sa bibliya na ito ay isang Tipan (Hosea 6:7, Isa. 24:5-6).
Sa mga susunod na katanungan makikita natin ang kahalagahan ng katotohanan na nakipag-tipan ang Diyos kay Adan sa hardin ng Eden bilang pangulo ng mga tao o “federal head”.

Q.25. What covenant did God make with Adam?
A. The covenant of life.
And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”

The Lord’s command to Adam was a Covenant. Although it is not recorded in the text above, we can see the change of Moses’ reference to God as “God” in the first chapter of Genesis to “LORD God” from 2: 4. The Hebrew word under the word “LORD” is the Name of God as the Covenant LORD.
The covenant of Life is also called by some the Covenant of Works, while others do not even call it the Covenant. Nevertheless, it is clear from the bible that it is a Covenant (Hosea 6: 7, Isa. 24: 5-6).
In the following questions we will see the importance of the fact that God made a covenant with Adam in the garden of Eden as the head of the people or “federal head”.
