A. Christ fulfills three offices. The offices of a prophet, of a priest, and of a king. (Rev 1:5-6)
and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

The threefold office of our Lord Jesus Christ is clear in the Bible (Hebrews 1: 1-2, 4: 14-16, 7:25, Eph. 1: 22-23).
Humans were created by God as prophets (representatives of God), priests (images of righteousness and holiness), and kings (rulers of God’s creation), but we did not fulfill this because of sin (Genesis 1-3). The threefold office of our Lord is the divinely appointed solution to the three diseases of ignorance, guilt, and pollution. Christ, as prophet, priest, and king, offers three kinds of cure to our deadly disease.
In His threefold office as prophet, priest, and king, Jesus heals our ignorance, he takes away our sin, and he saves us from our uncleanness. In these offices, we will see some of the details of what it means for Jesus to be the sole mediator in the covenant of grace.
