Q.78.  Why should we obey the Ten Commandments?
A.  Because God is our Creator, Savior and King (Exo 20:1-2)

And God spoke all these words, saying, “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

Before giving the Ten Commandments of God, Moses wrote down the reason why it should be obeyed, that God is the LORD. He has authority not only over Israel but over all His creation, He is the Creator, Savior, and only King.

This is a strong reason and motivation why we must obey God’s commandments. Not because it is a command of any man or king, not only because disobedience to it will harm us or obeying it will bring us good, but because it is the command of the LORD GOD Almighty. All people, rich or poor, Jew or Gentile, young or old, should obey God’s command. Everything is under the rule of God, so it is a great sin to disobey God’s clear and perfect law.
